Sauerkraut

“ALL DISEASE BEGINS IN THE GUT”⠀

Hippocrates (~400BC)⠀

Feeding the trillions of bacteria in our gut with the food they need is what keeps us the healthy human beings we strive to be. Physical and mental health are both implicated if our gut bacteria 🦠 are out of balance. So understanding how to eat well for your gut isn’t just a fad, it’s really vital if you want to stay healthy, within an optimal weight, have plenty of energy, keep anxiety at bay.

🥕⠀

With more than 1000 different species of bacteria, weighing approximately 2kg of our body weight it is important to keep them happy!⠀

🥦⠀

There has been a great rise in products that keep our gut healthy, from kombucha (fermented tea drinks) and kefir (fermented yoghurt drinks), to sauerkraut (fermented cabbages and vegetables) and miso (fermented soya beans). ⠀

🍆⠀

So in preparation for my Nutrition Reboot class tonight talking about good gut health I’ve made my own sauerkraut! Sometime it is nice to make your own versions- it’s definitely much cheaper and not too hard, so if this is something that you love and eat often why not give it a go. You just need to forward plan a week! ⠀
